3 Ways to Know If God Is Calling You

Here are 3 ways to know if God is calling you to do that thing you keep thinking about. • TotalThrive.com | Jenna Dexter

“Is it just me, God?”

We’ve all been there.

We all have these nagging thoughts about the things we feel called to do. And the bigger, crazier, scarier the calling seems, the more we second-guess and beg God to give us a clear “thumbs up”!

God speaks in a myriad of ways, but it’s the very “mystery” of God that brings us to his feet as we hunger to really “know” him and his will.

He LOVES it when we do that!

It’s part of the reason he typically doesn’t choose to speak in a super obvious, booming voice, or send a glowing angel to wake us up in the night with a clear directive.

He so badly wants you to come to him, crawl up in his lap, talk to him and meditate on the revelation and promises in his Word … so he can gently lead you and reveal his desires for the seasons of your life. And in so doing, build the bond he aches to have with you.

So, my friend …

Let your need to know his desires for you bring you into deeper intimacy with your Abba Daddy.

Here Are 3 Ways God Calls and Confirms

1 - Implanted Passion

God will continually revitalize you, implanting within you the passion to do what pleases him.
— Philippians 2:13 • The Passion Translation

If you are “living in holy awe of God …” as taught in the preceding verse, then your passions and desires, those things you might think are “just you” being crazy you … well, they quite possibly have been implanted in you by God himself.

Question:

Are you living in holy awe of God?

2 - Pearls of Wisdom

Here are kingdom revelations, words to live by, and words of wisdom given to empower you to reign life.
— Proverbs 1:1 • The Passion Translation

God gave you “The Ultimate Handbook of Wisdom”. It’s at your disposal any time you want it. If you really want to make smart choices … WISE choices … that help you flourish in whatever you do, study these words, girlfriend, and actively apply them to your life.

QUESTION:

Are you studying “The Ultimate Handbook of Wisdom” and applying it to your life”?

Which leads to the next point.

3 - Wise Counsel

Your plans will fall apart right in front of you if you fail to get good advice. But if you first seek out multiple counselors, you’ll watch your plans succeed.
— Proverbs 15:22 • The Passion Translation

If you’re following the part about being wise, then you’ll wisely seek out the counsel of others. Pray and ask God to show you who to talk to, because the last thing you need is stupid advice from people just spouting off any old thing.

There are two kinds of people you should talk to depending on your situation.

Spiritual Advice

Spiritual counsel will come from those you know to be godly people, who will thoughtfully offer advice with as much discernment as possible. They’ll pray with you and for you. You can trust that while they’re imperfect human beings, they have your best interest at heart and will do their best to give you wise and thoughtful counsel.

Practical Advice

If you are considering moving into a particular business or career, find someone who is successful in that business or career regardless of their spiritual beliefs. You want to know on a practical level what it takes. And God can use that person to speak to you about whether this direction is right for you.

QUESTION:

Are you seeking out multiple counselors so that your plans will succeed?

Quick Recap

There are far more ways God speaks, guides and gives the giant thumbs up … but these are a few to chew on today.

  1. If you’re living in holy awe of God, he will plant the passions that please him.

  2. If you’re studying words of wisdom, given by God himself, they will give you power to reign in life..

  3. If you’re going to the right people for counsel, you’ll watch your plans succeed.

Sometimes you just need to risk it

Sometimes you just need to step out and try that thing you feel a burning urge to do. If you realize down the road that it’s not quite right, shake it off and chalk it up to a learning experience. Maybe you’ve already tried things that didn’t pan out.

It is not wasted.

You didn’t fail.

At the very least you learned what NOT to do. And you learned a few things, maybe a lot of things, that will help you as you move forward.

So keep on keepin on, girlfriend! Keep seeking God. Keep looking for ways to use your unique gifts, experiences and ideas. Because you’ve got them all in spades!
