When God Calls You He Equips You - You are qualified, Woman!

You've got mad skills, girl ... or you've got the ability to GET the mad skills to do that thing God has called you to do. You're totally qualified, Woman! | TotalThrive.com

Sometimes God calls us to do things that send streaks of terror shooting through our veins.

Has this ever happened to you?

Is it happening right now?

Perhaps you doubt he’s even speaking to you, because for a number of perfectly good reasons, you couldn’t possibly do whatever this thing is.

Your Face Off With God

You see him.

He’s looking at you.

And these ridiculous things are coming out of his mouth. Something about calling you … something about …

Well it’s mind blowing the things he’s saying.

You shoot a glance over your left shoulder, and then your right.

Surely he must be looking at some other FAR more qualified individual.

Turning your confused gaze back toward him, you feebly point to your chest and gulp.

“God, are you talking to ME?”

It could be something as simple as Holy Spirit nudging you to speak a word of encouragement to that weird girl at work, or as big as a life-altering call to start a business or ministry.

“Okay, wait.” You rub your forehead. “God … almighty and powerful God, who I love, adore and respect to the depths of my soul. You obviously have me mixed up with some other person who …

… ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT THEY’RE DOING!”

Cupping your hand around your ear you lean in. “No? … Did you just say no?”

You step back and look into his big ole loving eyes.

“God, I don’t understand. … I can’t do that. … I’m not qualified.”

I'm Not Qualified

Believe me, I’ve been there. Okay, if we’re being real, I’m kind of there right now. The fact that I’m even writing this blog post. The fact that I’m creating this … this thing I call Total Thrive. The fact that I’m being brave enough to follow that burning passion to ignite women to dream, achieve and flourish … well, it’s seriously beyond my wildest imagination!

It’s kind of ridiculous.

Who do I think I am?

I’m not qualified!

And yet, God won’t relent. Apparently he thinks I’ve not only learned a thing or two that he wants me to pass on to you awesome gals, but what I don’t know he’s assured me he’ll teach me along the way.

And you wanna know a little secret?

I originally wrote this post for a very short-lived venture I dared to launch a few years ago. It kind of felt like a failure at the end of the day.

But he used it. He used ALL of it.

To equip me.

For this.

When God Calls You He Equips You

You never have to be afraid when Abba Daddy nudges you. When God calls you to something bigger than yourself, no matter how big or small, he promises to give you everything you need to do it.

... may he work perfection into every part of you giving you all that you need to fulfill your destiny
— Hebrews 13:21 The Passion Translation

Moses Had a Speech Impediment - What’s YOUR Excuse?!

You and I are not alone in our feelings of inadequacy. Moses had a speech impediment, for crying out loud. Yet God called him to:

  1. Stand in front of Pharaoh and basically “order” him to let the Israelites go (multiple times).

  2. Be a LEADER to the Israelites.

But Moses pleaded with the LORD, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.”
— Exodus 4:10 New Living Translation

God actually appeared to Moses in the form of a burning bush … wrap your head around that one for a moment! … and talked to him in a very audible … can’t miss it … kind of way.

Few of us can say God has spoken to us so obviously.

If only!

Even so, Moses couldn’t quite accept what was being asked of him. He figured God must not know how unqualified he was, so he was sure to point out all his flaws and weaknesses. All the reasons why it was just crazy-talk for God to use him for this impossible mission.

In the end, however, not only did this man with the “tangled words” get his brave on and go before Pharaoh … over and over … but after he led the Israelites out of Egypt, God used him to perform one of the most spectacular, mind-blowing miracles … like ever.

Moses’ Part in the the Freakish Parting of the Red Sea

Put yourself in Moses’ sandals for a moment.

Pharaoh and the Egyptian army are hot on the heels of the Israelites when they arrive at the Red Sea, basically trapped.

You’re Moses. Their leader. What the heck are you supposed to do now?

And the people you’re doing all this for. The one’s you’re trying to rescue from slavery are no help whatsoever.

“Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us?” Exodus 14:11.

But after everything you’ve seen God do, you bolster some faith.

“Don’t be afraid,” you boldly blurt out. “Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today.” v. 13

You haven’t a CLUE how this is going to happen, but somehow you believe.

Then you hear God’s voice. “Pick up your staff and raise your hand over the sea.” v. 16

Ummm … okay?

You do as instructed.

And then your eyes practically pop out of their sockets as the waters begin to part, creating two huge walls with a perfectly dry path for everyone to pass safely through to the other side.

God just used you (cause you’re still Moses) to free his people and freakishly part the Red Sea.

WHAT?!

All because you stepped out in faith … despite your feelings of inadequacy … and did what he called you to do.

I can do Awesome things through Christ who makes me Strong, Smart and Sassy!
